Where We Design Septic Systems

Pacific Rim Wastewater Solutions works across the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District and Central Vancouver Island — Port Alberni, Tofino, Ucluelet, Bamfield, Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Nanaimo, along with the smaller rural communities between them: Coombs, Errington, French Creek, Nanoose Bay, Lantzville, Cedar and Yellow Point. Every one of these places sits on different ground, and the ground is what decides the design. Island Health is the filing authority throughout. Unique and remote projects farther up the BC coast are taken on case by case.

Port Alberni

Pacific Rim Wastewater Solutions is based in Port Alberni, so Alberni Valley properties get the shortest travel time and the fastest scheduling of anywhere we serve. Designs follow the BC Sewerage System Regulation and SPM V3, are filed with Island Health, and the design package is typically prepared within one to two weeks of the site assessment.

Tofino & Ucluelet

Tofino and Ucluelet are the hardest septic sites on this coast: thin organic soils over bedrock, more than three metres of rain a year, and shoreline setbacks near shellfish-bearing waters. These parcels routinely need advanced design — imported sand, raised beds, pressure distribution, or Type 2 and 3 treatment — supported by hydrogeological analysis a P.Geo. can seal.

Bamfield

Bamfield is the most logistically demanding place we work. West Bamfield is reachable only by boat, East Bamfield only by an unpaved logging road from Port Alberni, and every load of sand, pipe, and gravel has to get there the hard way. Designs here are built around buildability, not just soil.

Parksville & Qualicum

Parksville and Qualicum Beach sit on some of the most permeable ground on Vancouver Island — Quadra Sand outwash that drains readily but also transmits contaminants to a heavily used drinking-water aquifer. Here the design question is usually not whether soil will accept effluent, but whether it treats it before reaching groundwater.

Nanaimo

Rural Nanaimo parcels sit in the Nanaimo Lowland, where a low-permeability Vashon till or fine glaciomarine cap over sand is the common pattern. That cap is what makes many Nanaimo-area lots harder than they look: drainage is slow, perched water is common, and the design has to prove separation rather than assume it.

Not on the list? Call (250) 735-5154. Remote and out-of-area projects are considered case by case (see below), and if a property genuinely does not suit the practice you will hear that straight away rather than after a site visit fee. See all services or typical costs.

Farther afield for unique projects

Central Vancouver Island is the primary service area, and it is where most of the work happens. It is not a hard boundary. For unique or remote projects — float-plane and boat-access sites, coastal resorts and lodges, off-grid properties — Jordan has taken on work as far as Denny Island on BC’s Central Coast and in Nootka Sound.

If your property sits somewhere along the BC coast that most designers will not travel to, it is worth a conversation. Remote sites change the design as much as the soil does — what can be barged or flown in, what equipment can reach the parcel, and how many trips the assessment realistically takes.

Tell us about the property

A short conversation about the parcel — where it is, what is going on it, what is on title — usually settles what work is needed and how fast it can happen.
